SB County Mandatory Spay and Neuter-Bad for good dogs V2
BackThere are other options! Santa Barbara could join the shelter communities who have embraced the No Kill Agenda and worked as a community to solve its problems. http://www.nokilladvocacycenter.org/ Call and write your County Supervisors. http://www.countyofsb.org SB County Shelter Data: http://www.naiashelterproject.org/shelter_chart.cfm?shelter_id=911&state=CA It would be irresponsible of Animal Control, the Board of Supervisors, Veterinary Professionals and the pet owning community to fail to weigh the relative costs and benefits of neutering on the individual animal's health and well being deciding the age for such surgery at the right time for that individual. The decision for females is more complex, further emphasizing the need for individualized veterinary medical decisions, not standard operating procedures for all. Clearly your staff had input from outside to push this forward. "Perhaps it is no coincidence that the nation's largest animal rights group, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), appeared frequently in the county during this period, through consulting work at shelters, giving a national leadership award to Santa Barbara state legislator Pedro Nava, praising Shelter Director Jan Glick for her work on issues ranging from wild horse rescue to dog fighting investigations, and working closely with activist and local veterinarian Dr. Ron Faoro on failed statewide mandatory spay/neuter legislation. HSUS has nothing to do with local humane societies or helping animals. Instead, it is a national political lobbying group that pushes the animal rights agenda. Its head, Wayne Pacelle, has been quoted repeatedly expressing opposition to animal ownership and breeding in any form."

More B.S. government interference taking away our rights.

Please do what your staff did not do in forming their committee to draft this ordinance. Please be fair in your choices and do not stack the group with individuals connected to the lobbying group the Humane Society of the United States which many mentioned in their speeches yesterday.
Please see below for select quotes by the President of the Humane Society of the United States that give those of us who live our lives with animals get chills from seeing.

"I don't have a hands-on fondness for animals...To this day I don't feel bonded to any non-human animal. I like them and I pet them and I'm kind to them, but there's no special bond between me and other animals." Wayne Pacelle quoted in Bloodties: Nature, Culture and the Hunt by Ted Kerasote, 1993, p. 251.

When asked if he envisioned a future without pets, "If I had my personal view, perhaps that might take hold. In fact, I don't want to see another dog or cat born." Wayne Pacelle quoted in Bloodties: Nature, Culture and the Hunt by Ted Kerasote, 1993, p. 266.

"We have no ethical obligation to preserve the different breeds of livestock produced through selective breeding. . One generation and out. We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding." Wayne Pacelle, Senior VP of Humane Society of the US, formerly of Friends of Animals and Fund for Animals, Animal People, May, 1993

I am pro spay and neutering at the age that is appropriate for each animal. It is a medical decision that should be made with the owner and their veterinarian and not a mandate made at a certain age by any local or state government.

Great video and a great message! I am 100% against neutering, and it is a pitty that so many idiots are so petty. Good for you for not being one of them.

The public forums that were scheduled for the County
of Santa Barbara to discuss mandatory spay neuter have
been postponed. Originally scheduled for February 27
(Santa Barbara) and February 28 (Santa Maria), the
County Board of Supervisors has advised "POSTPONED TO
APRIL (POSSIBLY MAY)."
When available, further information will be posted on
the County Board of Supervisors website agenda. I was
told that "Since that is two or three months away, the
agenda is not set at this time."

I agree 100% with this platform. We don't need more laws, we need education and more respondsible breeders who tell buyers they can return dog for any reason if they can no longer keep it. Please fight this law. We don't need government telling us what is best for our animals. What is next horse breeding? PETA is all for no more pets. All animals should be wild? That is crazy! We have demestocated them we need to take good care of them. Do not buy from Pet Stores!= puppy mills. Educate
