The Jam - That's Entertainment

One of those perfect pop songs that continue to haunt my brain more than 20 years after I first heard it. It just doesn't get any better than this....

I was 18 in 1983 and I sort forced my English teacher to discuss this song in class. He hated me for being so atrociously obstinate (God have mercy on his soul, Mr. Klusemann)...

Have you been watching some old Ben Elton videos? Stop living in the past & check your history cos' the band formed, released their first albumn and most of their best known singles before the tories even got into power. The song is nothing to do with politics and is just a geat poem of the times with a cracking tune.......

No, I just happened to live through those times. Tories were elected 3rd May 1979...this was written in 1980, IIRC. I saw them play in the "In The City' tour, 1978 (I think). If your youtube page is correct, you'd have been about 10 at the time. Paul Weller not political? BWAHAHA! Look up "Red Wedge", or the tune "Soul Deep" by the Council Collective (to raise money for striking miners) or, indeed the lyrics to "Down in a tube station at midnight". I now leave you to reading your Daily Mail.

What you say is correct & I wish I'd seen the Jam live but drop the predictable rant coz my Daily Mail back catalogue reminds me that the years b4 May 1979 were a shameful, mismanaged political disgrace. Nothing's black & white as today's Labour goverment thinks there's nothing wrong with illegal wars, the USA detaining people for years without charge and colludes with BAA and BA to make thousands of people homeless. Respect for having an opinion and either way the Jam were still a great band.

Bollocks Just a great song by a great band.We don't need all the political shite.

& I don't need no Facsist groove thang... Yup, of course you're right. Paul weller have NO political affiliations, in your world at least. In his, he's been a public supporter of the Labour party for decades. Now, go back to "reading" your copy of The Sun.
