lowaystar, maybe you should ask them about My Lai or agent orange. Or, you know, any of the other terrible (if not genocidal) things the US did.
lowaystar (Tuesday 25th of November 2008 04:02:28 PM)
Why should I? They are well aware of these things but bear no ill will toward the United States. That was the point I was trying to make. It was their home, not yours. You or I have no idea what these people went through and they are old enough to remember the war. People in other in other parts of the world who were not there seem to have nothing but contempt for the US and only use what they have learned from history books as justification. Why don't YOU talk to someone who was there?
Boblekonvolutt (Thursday 27th of November 2008 07:43:33 AM)
Yeah, judging people based on their actions and intent is totally unfair. And the opinions of the several Vietnamese people you know are much more important than the opinions of a couple million dead civilians.
lowaystar (Friday 28th of November 2008 05:59:40 PM)
Do you speak to the dead? If not how can you possibly know what their opinions were? Maybe they opposed communism and spoke their minds only to be terrorized and murdered by the Viet Cong. This accounts for a great deal of the civilian deaths. I won't even mention what happened in Laos and Cambodia.
I wanted an intelligent discussion but all you can give me is empty rhetoric and sarcasm, so I will not comment any further. One word of advice: Stop accepting the mass media as truth.
Boblekonvolutt (Saturday 29th of November 2008 05:39:58 AM)
Straw-manning isn't really a good way to discuss things and a clear sign you don't want an intelligent discussion. And please excuse my assumption that a majority of the dead would rather be alive. The fact that the Viet Cong (complicated topic) did terrible things doesn't mean the US didn't, regardless of how many times worse they were. Also (as if my opinion had anything to do with it), look into mass media outside of the US before you comment on it.
