Macs don't get virus's? I wish somebody had told me that before i fucked twelve PC's
PmJ1515 (Monday 1st of December 2008 02:02:53 PM)
The only reason macs dont have viruses is because no one good enough with technology and smart enough to make a very basic virus uses a mac. macs r for idiots who can get conned out of 300 extra bucks for a worse machine than a pc
battleformiddleEA (Tuesday 25th of November 2008 05:42:19 PM)
macs can get hacked and stuff its just is about 1/million if u go to bad webtsites but if u dont 1/billion. for pc 1/1000 if u dont for pc 1/half million. more pc out there more risk in the sites u go to.

BTW there were nearly 100 viruses for Mac OS 9 back when they had only 3% market share but there are no viruses now that Apple has 8% with OS X. Just goes to show, the market share argument is a load of rubbish.
magnetiktrax (Monday 24th of November 2008 12:51:18 AM)
There are rootkits for Linux that will affect a wide variety of Linux distributions and flavours. There have also been a few Linux worms that affected large numbers of machines (of varying flavours) in a very short time. But these worms have been rare because the more secure design of a UNIX derived OS makes it harder to write malware for. Seems to me you've been reading too much of the type of FUD and misinformation Microsoft fanboys try to spread around.
ajtaggs (Monday 24th of November 2008 07:21:45 AM)
I'm a Linux fan, so don't try to put me on the MS bandwagon. Linux is open source so in order to write a virus, you would have to see something that thousands upon thousands of people missed, furthermore, once you wrote that virus, only one of those thousands are needed to fix it. You wouldn't write a virus for Linux becuase you'd be up against to many people. Every OS is vulnerable to some degree... viruses can be written for Mac OS X. Do you really believe its perfect?
magnetiktrax (Monday 24th of November 2008 09:49:09 AM)
Just because source can be viewed by thousands of people doesn't mean it is. In fact, rarely do more than a handful of developers look at the source of most projects. Just how much Linux source have you reviewed? I don't think OS X is perfect. I'm just pointing out that market share is not the reason there are no Mac viruses.
ajtaggs (Monday 24th of November 2008 12:07:44 PM)
I believe your a fool if you don't think that market share is part of the reason there aren't any viruses on OS X. I guarantee there would be viruses on it if it held a significant amount of the market share. Lets say, for example, when OS X came out 80% of the people who had Windows switched to Apple. Do you honestly believe there would be no Viruses on OS X still? There are, of course, other reasons that contribute but market share is most certainly one of them.
magnetiktrax (Monday 24th of November 2008 01:32:22 PM)
Of course there would be viruses for OS X if the market shares were reversed but the number would be a tiny fraction of the number of viruses we see for Windows. 40% of the internet runs on Linux and there are hardly any viruses for it. BeOS, Amiga, OS9 all had numerous viruses even when they had only a fraction of OS X's market share. You can ignore the facts but they remain true. OS X isn't perfect but it has a far better track record than any other popular desktop OS thanks to its design.
