Unmarked Speed Camera Van on A57 - Snakes Pass
BackUnmarked camera van on A57 - Snakes Pass. This camera van was originally white with florescent strips and had the normal camera van markings. Then it was painted blue to disguise it. Now it has been painted green. Registration number FN02 NWZ. According to MCN is it still registered as a white van so is not actually legal but what copper is going to give it a ticket?

i was on this road on sunday with a bunch of biker mates but coming in the opposite direction to this clip and the same green van was there in what looks like the same layby. only problem is i didnt see it and i decided to open it up a bit. now the van was facing the same direction as in this clip but i came from the other way and went flying past it. does anyone know which direction the camera operates in, is it just oncoming traffic or does it work both ways.

Mobile enforcement operates in both directions. Assuming the officer was actively watching the carriageway, not just setting up, closing down or swapping with their partner and you are the registered keeper, the NIP will be sent within fourteen days.
What speed do you think were doing and what is the limit on that stretch?

To continually cite 'speed as not being a contributory factor in RTA's' is highly misleading. Accidents on the road will never be stopped, simply WHEN they occur the resulting injury/damage will usually be reduced in direct relation to the impact speed. The slower to collision speed, the less the level of injury - this is at the core of speed enforcement, but if the average driver chooses to ignore speed limits, speed cameras cannot be held responsible if accidents figures do not drop.

that's the whole point, speeding generally isn't the issue!

that renault people carrier overtaking on double whites on a blind corner needs to be banned from driving
i cant believe the police would rather catch people doing 100 where perfectly safe over some idiot overtaking on a blind corner !!

You've hit the nail right on the head there - the police don't have 'preferences' as to which offences to prosecute, it is a simple case of how do you implement a mechanism to ensnare everything that contravenes legislation? Can you imagine the public outcry if there was a camera on every blind bend, the speed equivalent on every open stretch & every tenth car was a police one?
Given the reduction in police funding, speed cameras are an excellent way of policing problem speeding areas.

Only two percent of road accidents were caused by adult drivers exceeding the posted speed limit, according to the Department for Transport (DfT). It's only 8% for young drivers as well.
Speed cameras are not helping road safety especially if they are unmarked.
They do nothing to improve the standard of driving where the real problem lies.

No, I haven't driven this road, but I thought I made my point clearly;
It isn't a case of deterring speed in a generic sense, instead you are given the opportunity to 'surf' stretches of road, slowing up at camera locations then speeding off again well over the limit. I am all for covert cameras, but that said, catching excess speeders well above the 10%+2 laid down in the ACPO Guidelines, especially motorcyclists who ride over a ton on the public highway. Homing missiles would work too.

The butty van at the end of the clip is fantastic! The belly buster is awesome and he uses decent sausages.
