Yeah seriously, I want to know what happens to Jacob and the rest of the military! I'd probably say that realistically, Dr. McNeal and the survivors of the evacuation would be in no state to help the rest of the military. However, I'd estimate that if a few million made it off the planet and they brought along an arsenal of technology, they could easily put a hurting into the Imps in ... oh ... 20 years? That's with no population restrictions and careful expansion.

In Old Soldiers of the Bolo series, 20K colonists with only a handful of technology, no intergalactic vessels, no navy, and 87% survivability capacity were able to fully colonize a lush planet in 100 or so years and were able to fully fortify, number in the billions, and build a helluva nasty fleet. I'd say that if the Imps didn't follow the NSA, they could have a chance at rebuilding their fleet, colonizing numerous worlds, and then hit the Imps hard.
