Bizarre colorful (luminous/glowing) cloud phenomenon in the sky was observed about 30 mins before the May 12, 2008 Sichuan earthquake took place. I am not sure exactly what they were or whether they indeed had anything to do with the quake. I am no expert anyways. See if any scientists are willing to give a full explanation. If such phenomenon can be proved for its connection with earthquake occurrences, maybe they could be used as warning signs and would be life saving. If not, just learn these clouds as yet another rare atmospheric phenomenon and no need to panic when seeing them. After all, this might well be just a rare atmospheric phenomenon occurred by coincidence. Though, just wondering if there's any possibility the formation of such rare clouds be catalyzed by any event?? actually years ago a chineese or japanese scientist had been observing cloud patterns over earthquake zones sub terrainian gases actually leak up before big quakes was his theory after seeing strange lined clouds over known fault lines

Why have you not changed your "info" and stated that these have been proven to be caused the the HAARP weapon in alaska? this is without doubt true. the earthquake was caused by this billion watt instrument. do the simple research.

Siriusdesigner, you state some ideas as facts, 'lights in the sky' have never been demonstrated to occur before an earthquake. Unless you truly believe these sun dogs (ice crystals in clouds refracting sun light) 300 miles away from an earthquake somehow indicated a quake. IF it is true that sun dogs, commonly seen in the atmosphere of earth, means a quake will occur, and since there are quakes everyday, brushing your teeth daily is just as predictive of quakes. Don't be silly

Yesterday, I photographed the same fenomena, while on a walk at Regent's Park London. Does that mean that we are having soon another major earthquake? I don't think so!!

It is a less commonly known fact that before major earthquakes UFO sitings go up. This is due to compress of the earth. This compressing somehow releases plasma into the air which are then mistaken for UFOs or lights in the sky. SO basically this is just partially ionized gases(ionized by the extreme presure of the tectonic plates) that come before most earthquakes. =3
