Auerbach is not technically a good guitarist. Although I personally think that the Black Keys are freakin awesome, the guitar work is really elementary at best. He has a knack for creating these insanely simple riffs and he just plays the same riff over and over in a song and injects a ton of attitude into them and they totally rock. The Black Keys are proof that RnR doesn't have to be technically good to be totally awesome. It's RnR...it's not supposed to be all that good. Just has to Rock!

Don't mean to piss you off man..I definately think he kicks ass too. But you can't compare him to Page or Clapton or the like..not in technical ability anyway. But he definately has got some kick ass attitude to put behind that screamin SG. The Black Keys are awesome!

Well, yeah, he isn't Joe Satriani or Steve Vai, but as someone who has learned quite a few of their songs, I can say that he is a master of the dirty style of the blues. Some of his riffs are more complex than one might think when listening to them. A great improviser too, he really knows his guitar neck as well as the pentatonic and blues scales. Most importantly, he has awesome rhythm in his playing, which even the most technical of guitarists can lack at times.

I totally agree on: #1 the comparison, White Stripes are quite good, but completely different. #2 - Dan, is one of the best rock guitarists I've heard in 40+ years (yes, I'm that old). He's got so much down, playing multi-parts like a much older guy(Lead & Rhythm, sometimes all 3 parts), it blows me away. Pat is also as good a drummer as been around for awhile. These guys play at or above "Cream" level, Clapton / Baker, and don't need the third guy. Wish they got more airplay........
