Pope: Everyone is called to holiness, to grow in love

Today, perhaps, we are not called to martyrdom, but no one is excluded "from the divine call to holiness, to live a high standard Christian life." This was Pope Benedict's message this morning during the general audience held in the courtyard of Castel Gandolfo, where he is spending a period of rest. Before some 4 thousand faithful, Benedict XVI recalled the martyrs we remember this week, St. Lawrence St. Pontian, Saint Teresa of the Cross, Edith Stein St. Maximilian Kolbe, defining martyrdom "a great act of love in response to the immense love of God.
