GOOD: Oil Addiction

Back

http://good.is/ If we're addicted to oil, our twelve-step program should begin with admitting that we have a problem. As the price of oil creeps higher, finding new energy sources is more important than ever. But the search for alternatives, combined with environmental disruptions, is putting new pressures on other essentials like food. There are some things that are going well in the world. Right now, the economy is not one of them. We get 30% of our domestic oil from off-shore drilling of the Gulf Coast (Texas, New Orleans...), and that is just the sections that are allowed. That is right, 30% of our domestic oil. In the beginning, those against the Gulf Coast Ocean drilling never imagine that much. So, consider how much we could get from the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. And that isn't just oil, but, also, natural gas. Drilling will not solve the problem but it will sure make us less dependent of the lovely Middle East.

Oil didn't come from decaying dinosaurs... seriously.

I think they're trying to say it came from dead things in general and not just dinosaurs.

Oil is down right now but it will never, NEVER stay this low. Peak Oil is real and a major problem facing the world. The price may stay deflated for a year or so because of our sagging economy but rest assured it will soar upward big time.

Short-sighted, you are... The direction of oil is UP. WAY WAY WAY UP. It has been happening for years now. So I don't even need to say "just you wait." As soon as the recession starts to level out, watch oil start REALLY picking up the pace. We WILL be wishing oil were back down at $147 come 2010.
