Queen Elizabeth becomes Britain's oldest monarch London, 20 Dec (ANI): Queen Elizabeth became Britain's oldest monarch on December 20th, overtaking a record set by her great great grandmother, Queen Victoria. Royal commentators expect her to be on the throne for some time to come. Elizabeth, the 40th monarch since William the Conqueror took the English throne in 1066, was born on April 21, 1926. The first reigning British monarch to celebrate a diamond wedding anniversary in November, still has some way to go if she is to beat Victoria's record as Britain's longest-reigning monarch. The Queen Mother married into the Royal family. Her husband became King after her brother and law EdwardVIII abdicated the throne. Since she married into the family she came a queen consort and not a queen regnant. a queen regnant is of royal blood and is the monarch. A queen consort or prince consort is the spouse of of the monarch, i.e. Prince Phillip is a Prince consort even though he is a prince by his own birth right. He was born a Prince of Greece and Denmark.

When the king died all powers when to Princess Elizabeth, (now Queen Elizabeth), the second his last breath left him. If the Queen mother was still Queen of Canada then it must have been by an act of the Canadian Government. In any case Queen Elizabeth, (senior), was Queen by marriage only. The title remained because as Queen her power was second to the King and now second to her daughter and equal to that of Prince Philip, who is the Prince Consort and not King Consort.

Queen Elizabeth II becomes the longest reigning British Monarch on Sept 09 2015., Also making her 89 when that happens. Further she has been Canada's longest reigning monarch for well over 22 yrs. Surpassing Queen Victoria's reign, of our Country Canada, which was 34 yrs long. The other comments seem to cause confusion about the Queen Mother. She was never Queen Regina but Queen Consort. There is a big difference in the two.
