Total (June 16, 2007 - Sept. 22, 2008): 35,542 trucks; 813,870 tons The Unit for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories reports daily on the general humanitarian situation in Gaza 2 way traffic at the Erez Crossing of international organizations' staff, Gaza residents seeking medical treatment together with the people accompanying them ("medical evacuations"), and Palestinian civilians has been permitted for humanitarian reasons since 18 Jan 2007 and occurs daily.

Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed. * In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of startup companies than any other country in the world, except the U.S. (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).

With all that financial support (coupled with a high IQ population) I'm not surprised by that kind of science/business activity. But merit does not equal morality. Fact remains that Israel has 150-300 nuclear weapons widely dispersed on sophisticated delivery platforms, while Iraq had none, and Iran has none.

Youssef Ibrahim writes about AIPAC: "That there is a lobby in America concerned with the well-being of Israel is a silly question. It is insane to ask whether the 6 million American Jews should be concerned about the 6 million Israeli Jews, particularly in view of the massacre of another 6 million Jews in the Holocaust. It's elementary, my dear Watson: Any people who do not care for their own are not worthy of concern. Its what all ethnic lobbies - Greek, Armenian etc-do in this democracy.

re: lobby groups. Exactly, and if any of the other lobby groups were financially and politically powerful enough to motivate the US govt to provide financial, materiel, and political support in contravention of American interests, I would oppose them too. As for the old humanitarian shtick -- funny how Foxman and the ADL fought like pitbulls against Congressional recognition of the Armenian genocide so as not to perturb diplomatic relations of the Israeli State.

President Carter has frequently reiterated the point that his "use of 'apartheid' does not apply to circumstances within Israel."[102] Regarding the title of his book Carter has said: "It's not Israel. The book has nothing to do with what's going on inside Israel which is a wonderful democracy, you know, where everyone has guaranteed equal rights and where, under the law, , Arabs and Jews who are Israelis have the same privileges about Israel.

Interesting. Why do you cut and paste the same message another poster left 3 days before? If President Carter really is so uncritical about Israel, why has the AIPAC/ADL Smearbund called him all kinds of despicable names? And why wasn't he invited to speak at the Democratic convention in August? Evidently, criticizing slavish support for a country who's partizans involved America in a war that killed four thousand and wasted trillions of dollars is not kosher.

is trying to gin up another war even though the NIE made clear Iran has not pursued any nuclear device in 5 years. I take a position very close to Ron Paul (who, incidentally, was one of the only politicians NOT to criticize Israel when it took out Osirak). Leave the Middle East to its own devices.

However strong the Hagee-type Christian Zionists are, the bulk of support comes from bought+paid for technocratic politicians who care very little for religion (the ChrZionists are the tail, American Israel Lobby the dog). A Clean Break was written long before GW was in the White House, and if 9/11 had happened on Clinton or Gore's watch, we would have almost an identical response. I've got nothing against the Israeli people--but I've also got nothing against the Iranian people, and look who
